How Pivot Bio PROVEN40 Allowed Us to Apply 40 lbs Less Nitrogen per Acre

Ever heard of a CCI meter? It measures the Chlorophyll Concentration Index in plants.  I hadn’t heard of it either.  But I got to use one live in our corn fields this summer and I was impressed.    Now WHY is this such a big deal? This meter allowed us to measure...

I'm Jena Ochsner.

A farmer, farm wife, mother to two farm kids, and advocate for all things agriculture. My husband, Levi, and I live and work on his family’s 5th generation farm where we raise corn, soybeans, cattle, and country kids. I share our daily life on the farm on Instagram and Facebook and ship our homegrown beef from our farm to families all across the country.

Our little ball of fire second born is THREE today! I really wanted a May baby but in true Crawdaddy fashion he came rolling in on his own time the first day of June. He keeps us on our toes, he’s got big ideas but an even bigger heart, he embodies EVERY second born stereotype you’ve ever heard, he fell at the airport on the way to Mexico last week and almost ended our vacay before it started 🤪, but we love him so hard through it all!
Happy happy birthday Crawford Dell - we love you BIG 🩵🥳
Let it be known that I got my farmer off the farm during the month of May for a REAL vacation. We spent last week in Mexico with Levi’s family celebrating his cousin’s marriage! It was a beautiful wedding and we had such a great time laughing with family and truly relaxing. We needed that family vacation more than we even realized and hearing Levi say that it was worth the VERY long week of work he had before leaving was so special. 💛
They did this all on their own but I bet I still get blamed for child labor 🙄
I will never apologize for raising capable kids. The best part is my kids would choose this over screen time any day of the week. Farm life really is the best life for these kids. Forever thankful we get to raise them out here in God’s country. 💛
It’s BEEF MONTH.
It takes a village to raise great quality beef for our safe food supply. #ad
It starts during calving season when we’re out of town at a conference or snuck away for a date night and our family or neighbors take a night check for us. As the calves grow and the grass greens, the herd gets hauled to summer pasture. Since we can’t lay eyes on our pasture every day, the neighbors down there give us a call if a fence is down or a cow gets out. Harvest rolls around and it’s time to start fencing off fields to bring in cows in on our cornstalks. Truckers haul cattle from several hundred miles away to graze stalks during the winter. Our own herd gets brought home to our corn stalks as well. Neighbors and friends gather many times to help with cattle drives as cows move from field to field to graze fresh stalks. Winter comes with it’s own set of challenges and sometimes a cow or calf gets sick. Local vets help us decide a treatment plan to get the animals back on track.
This beef month we are celebrating the community of fellow producers and ag companies that help make raising great beef a reality! Thanks @zoetiscattle for being a part of our village!
Stay tuned for more cattle stories this year! Visit BornOfTheBond.com to learn more! 🐮💛
Is he sending me on a scavenger hunt or did he actually want me to find the right rows to flag? 🤔
Levi sent me to flag a field for emergence using the @precision.planting emergence flagging kits… stay tuned to see if I actually found said rows 🤣
Farm wife life = forever being sent for the most random things the farm needs. Levi sent me to @bomgaarssupply to get some @shellrotellat T5 for the semis. We’re coming off of grain hauling season all winter/spring long so making sure the semis are refreshed while we have a little downtime is a must.
Then he called and said he needed deer blocks… this was a new one for me.
@bomgaarssupply is one of those stores you can just go to and it will tell you what you need.. ladies, you can relate, right? Decided I needed a new hose and garden sprayer since last year’s hose has a leak.
